Use SNES Controllers on NeoGeo, SuperGun, and CBOX DB15 Hardware
The classic SNES and Super Famicom controller remains one of the most comfortable gamepads ever made. With the right adapter, it can also become a responsive controller option for NeoGeo AES, MVS, SuperGun, CBOX, DIY arcade projects, and MiSTer FPGA DB15 setups.
The SNES-to-NeoGeo Controller Adapter is a fast protocol converter that reads the SNES serial controller signal and outputs it through the NeoGeo-style DB15 interface. It is designed for low-latency play, making it suitable for arcade action games, fighting games, and classic NeoGeo titles.
4-Button NeoGeo and 6-Button Arcade Support
In addition to the standard NeoGeo 4-button layout, the updated firmware also supports extended 6-button output for compatible SuperGun, CBOX, and DIY SuperGun setups. The regular NeoGeo A, B, C, and D buttons are mapped from the SNES face buttons, while the SNES L and R shoulder buttons can be used as extra E and F outputs.
This makes the adapter useful not only for traditional NeoGeo hardware, but also for JAMMA arcade projects and custom DB15 controller environments that support additional buttons.
Great for CBOX and Capcom 6-Button Arcade Games
For CBOX users, the expanded 6-button mapping is especially useful for Capcom-style arcade games that rely on six action buttons. Games such as Street Fighter II, Street Fighter Alpha, Darkstalkers, and other CPS/CPS2 fighting titles can benefit from having all six attack buttons available through a familiar SNES/SFC controller layout.
The SNES face buttons handle the main four actions, while L and R provide the extra fifth and sixth buttons. This gives CBOX players a compact and practical way to enjoy Capcom 6-button fighting games without needing a dedicated arcade stick for every setup.
Natural Button Mapping
The main SNES face buttons are mapped to NeoGeo controls in an intuitive arcade-friendly layout. SNES Y, B, X, and A correspond to NeoGeo A, B, C, and D, while SNES L and R provide the optional fifth and sixth buttons for supported SuperGun and CBOX configurations.
Compatible with Original and Modern Controllers
The adapter works with original SNES and Super Famicom controllers, compatible third-party pads, arcade sticks, and popular wireless solutions such as the 8BitDo SNES retro receiver.
8BitDo Receiver Friendly
Some 8BitDo SNES receivers may power off or reset when Start is held for several seconds. The updated firmware includes a Start workaround by mirroring SNES L to the NeoGeo/JAMMA Start signal, helping preserve long-press reset behavior while keeping gameplay responsive (eg. mvs 161 in 1 game cart).
Open Source Project
This adapter is based on the updated open-source project available at pro-pgm/SNES-to-NeoGeo. Special thanks to robinhedwards for the original SNES-to-NeoGeo project, and thanks to plugerinner for create 6 buttons, and thanks to moldov31337/SNES-to-NEO-GEO for parts of the referenced code and ideas used in the updated firmware.
Important Compatibility Note
Because original NeoGeo AES controller ports are deeply recessed, a compatible 15-pin extension cable is recommended for proper connection.
If you want a compact, responsive, and flexible way to use SNES controllers on NeoGeo, SuperGun, CBOX, DIY arcade, MiSTer DB15 hardware, and Capcom-style 6-button arcade games, the SNES-to-NeoGeo Controller Adapter is a practical plug-and-play solution with expanded 6-button support.
